Sandra Cuevas has revealed in a recent interview that Adrián Rubalcava confessed to her that he is the next director of the Metro. Cuevas mentioned that her distancing from Rubalcava began when he left the opposition alliance to support President Claudia Sheinbaum in late 2023 and early last year. She emphasized the importance of the opposition remaining united, especially in light of Morena's plans to win mayorships like Cuajimalpa, previously governed by Rubalcava.
Additionally, Cuevas shared that she rejected a proportional representation deputy position from Morena offered by Claudia Sheinbaum through Rubalcava. Despite rumors about Rubalcava taking the position, the head of the Government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada, has not confirmed changes in the direction of the Metro for now, keeping Guillermo Calderón in his position.
The National Action Party has demanded the resignation of Guillermo Calderón, the current director of the Metro, following recent service failures. PAN deputies argue that Calderón has been incompetent and negligent in addressing the deficiencies of the system. The criticisms arose after problems on lines 8 and 9 on March 3, with the closure of stations during peak hours, forcing the evacuation of thousands of users.
In light of this situation, Federico Döring and Héctor Saúl Téllez Hernández from PAN have requested Brugada to dismiss Calderón and implement a comprehensive program to improve the maintenance and safety of the Metro. In this context, it is speculated that Rubalcava will take over as director in the coming weeks, succeeding Calderón. Rubalcava has publicly expressed his support for Sheinbaum and Morena, although Cuevas has mentioned that her relationship with him is no longer as close.
